One month after the release of Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5, it is clear that this update has transformed the game's endgame experience in many positive ways. After spending countless hours exploring every major mechanic, farming strategy, and character build, many dedicated players agree that this is the strongest update the developers have delivered so far. Whether you enjoy mapping, boss hunting, or experimenting with different builds, Patch 0.5 provides far more variety than previous versions. For players looking to optimize their progression even faster, POE2 Currency remains an essential resource for crafting gear, upgrading equipment, and testing new endgame strategies.

A Refreshing and More Diverse Endgame

The biggest success of Patch 0.5 is undoubtedly the complete overhaul of the endgame. Previous patches often encouraged players to repeat only one or two profitable strategies, making the experience feel repetitive after a few weeks. This update changes that dramatically.

Players can now choose from numerous viable farming methods, each offering competitive rewards. Whether focusing on Abyss encounters, Breach content, Delirium farming, boss rushing, or traditional mapping, there is no longer a single "correct" way to earn valuable loot. This diversity makes every gaming session feel fresh and encourages experimentation.

Perhaps more importantly, build diversity has improved significantly. Instead of seeing only a handful of dominant meta builds, the current ladder features many different classes and skill combinations performing well. While perfect balance has not yet been achieved, the gap between top-tier and average builds has become much smaller than before.

Atlas Tree Finally Feels Meaningful

Another major improvement is the redesigned Atlas passive tree.

In earlier versions, many passive points offered relatively minor bonuses that barely affected gameplay. Patch 0.5 gives each choice more impact, allowing players to customize their preferred farming strategy in a noticeable way.

Specializing in mechanics such as Expedition, Ritual, Delirium, or Breach now genuinely changes the rewards earned from maps. Players can clearly feel the benefits of investing their Atlas points into specific content.

However, one major quality-of-life feature is still missing: an Atlas respec option.

Without the ability to easily reset passive choices, players who accidentally select ineffective nodes may have to wait months before corrections are introduced. Since new strategies continue to emerge throughout a league, allowing players to respec would encourage experimentation instead of punishing it.

Character Power Has Increased Dramatically

Patch 0.5 also gives players access to incredibly powerful character builds.

Many builds are capable of defeating bosses with relatively modest investment, making progression smoother than ever before. This accessibility allows newer players to experience more of the game's content without needing extremely expensive equipment.

However, this creates another issue.

Player power has increased much faster than endgame difficulty. Many bosses die within seconds, leaving little room for mechanical skill or strategic decision-making. The current balance often feels tilted toward offense, reducing the excitement of difficult encounters.

Future updates should either strengthen endgame bosses or slightly reduce player damage output to restore a healthier balance between challenge and reward.

Tablets Need a Complete Redesign

Despite the many improvements, one mechanic receives widespread criticism: Tablets.

The concept itself is interesting, but the current implementation creates unnecessary frustration.

Every Tablet contains multiple modifiers with varying values, making pricing extremely complicated. Players must evaluate not only the modifiers themselves but also their numerical roll ranges, which can dramatically change market value.

As a result, many players simply avoid selling Tablets altogether.

This leads to a smaller marketplace, lower supply, and a more frustrating trading experience. Purchasing the exact Tablets needed for a farming strategy often requires visiting multiple player hideouts, resulting in excessive loading screens and wasted time.

Compared to the Scarab system from the original Path of Exile, Tablets feel unnecessarily complicated. A simplified trading system or a complete redesign would significantly improve the overall experience.

City Farming Creates New Problems

City maps introduce another controversial mechanic.

While cities provide impressive bonuses—including additional Tablet slots and stronger Tablet effects—these bonuses are so powerful that they unintentionally discourage running normal maps.

Instead of enjoying a variety of locations, players often rush through maps solely to locate the next city. This gameplay loop resembles the unpopular tower-hunting systems from previous patches.

Planning around city placement also creates awkward interactions with mechanics such as Grand Mirrors and Head of the King, making Atlas management far more tedious than necessary.

Removing or reducing exclusive city bonuses would encourage players to enjoy the full Atlas rather than constantly searching for specific map layouts.

Biomes Add Complexity Without Enough Reward

Biome-specific bonuses are another mixed feature.

Although they introduce additional strategic planning, they often feel more like restrictions than meaningful choices. Certain farming strategies become heavily dependent on specific biome types, forcing players to spend extra time searching for ideal maps instead of actually playing them.

For casual players, biome bonuses rarely make a noticeable difference.

For high-end players, however, they add another optimization layer that increases preparation time without making gameplay more enjoyable.

A simpler system with permanent Atlas modifiers rather than biome-specific bonuses might provide greater flexibility while reducing unnecessary complexity.

The Game Still Needs More Challenging Content

One area where Path of Exile 2 still falls short is endgame difficulty.

As player builds become stronger, many bosses continue to receive health and damage reductions, making encounters easier with each major update.

Veteran players are eager for content that truly tests optimized characters. Uber bosses, harder mapping tiers, or optional high-difficulty modifiers would provide long-term goals for experienced players while remaining optional for newcomers.

Delirium once offered this type of challenge, but recent nerfs have reduced its intensity. Restoring optional higher difficulty settings could satisfy players seeking greater rewards through greater risk.

Small Quality-of-Life Improvements Matter

Several smaller issues also deserve attention.

Map rolling now requires significantly more Omens than before, increasing preparation time without adding meaningful gameplay. This change simply introduces additional inconvenience and should ideally be reverted.

Likewise, making Grand Mirrors tradeable items instead of random map discoveries would greatly reduce frustration while creating a healthy new trading market.

These adjustments may seem minor individually, but together they would significantly improve the overall flow of endgame progression.

Final Thoughts

Patch 0.5 represents a major milestone for Path of Exile 2. The endgame is more engaging, build diversity has never been stronger, and the Atlas system finally gives players meaningful customization. Although several mechanics—including Tablets, city farming, biome restrictions, and overall difficulty balance—still need refinement, the foundation is incredibly promising. If Grinding Gear Games continues listening to community feedback and polishing these remaining systems before Version 1.0, Path of Exile 2 has every opportunity to become one of the greatest action RPGs available.
